Mr. Hopkins has worked in the surveying profession for over twenty years, and has been working for the City of San Diego since 1994. Mr. Hopkins has extensive experience both public and private in dealing with boundary resolution, land development and mapping. Mr. Hopkins currently manages the mapping department for the City of San Diego in the capacity of Senior Land Surveyor and Deputy City Engineer. His responsibilities include managing the section and reviewing and approving all land title documents for the City of San Diego. His other functions include the interpretation and application of the Subdivision Map Act, Professional Land Surveyors Act, San Diego Municipal Code and the California Streets and Highways Code as they relate to the land development process.
Greg spends a great deal of time reviewing proposed legislation and case law as it applies to the mapping and land development industry and proposes updates to the City’s municipal code when changes in law occur. Mr. Hopkins is very concerned about the continuing education of land surveyors. He is an advocate for pushing efforts forward that would help build up the surveying profession through the education of the public, along with defining and modeling ethical behavior that will enhance the public’s perception of our profession. These issues and others have motivated Mr. Hopkins to align himself with the organization and founding of LSACTS; a diverse group of like professionals sharing these types of concerns.
Mr. Hopkins has an Associate’s Degree from Grossmont College and a Bachelor’s degree with distinction from San Diego State University in Public Administration. He also has multiple certificates in leadership and management from SDSU, The National Management Association, Franklin Covey, and The Center for Organizational Effectiveness. He also holds a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems from Pennsylvania State University.
Mr. Hopkins is a subject matter expert for the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists (BPELSG) and has been licensed in California as a Professional Land Surveyor since 2001.
